| Moqui Marbles | ||||
|
Moqui (pronounced mo-key) Marbles are found in Utah. Moqui marbles are also known as "Shaman Stones".
Moqui marbles are thought to be caused by venting volcanic gases: bubbles of gelatinous limonite, volcanically heated, altering the limonite to hematite, then cooling into the marbles. The marbles are found when exposed areas of the Navajo formation are eroded by weather. The Navajo formation is a very soft layer of sedimentary rock dating from the very beginning of the Jurassic era (very end of Triassic Period), approximately 190-208 million years old. Navajo sandstone is soft and cannot support its own weight except through compression. Once exposed to the elements, it erodes into sheer cliffs. This formation forms many of the dramatic fins and arches of Utah. It is visible in Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument, Zion National Park, and Capitol Reef National Park. Most moqui marbles are found near Escalante. Escalante became a national monument in 2000. It is now illegal to collect moqui marbles. The moqui marbles available here are from old collections. All are in excellent condition. Most are round. A few have a pronounced “disk” around the mid-section, typically described as “flying saucer”-shaped. Moqui marbles are excellent for clearing and aligning energy centers and meridians. They can also be used for gridding. Work with moqui marbles to reconnect with subtle Earth eneriges and synchronize with the Earth's pulse. |

Variscite is a soft apple green semi-precious stone often confused with turquoise (both are phosphates). Variscite is relatively rare. These variscite nodule slices host green variscite, bar-like formations of kolbeckite, yellow veins of crandallite, and grey "eyes" of millisite, gordonite and wardite. Originating from the Clay Canyon, Fairfield, Utah mine closed in the 1930s.
